I face heating issue in my laptop when I use it during charging. Normally it runs pretty coolly on battery. I am currently using a 45w ac adapter. Should I use a 65w adapter to overcome it?

Please give me suggestions. Thank you.

@JonaidHasan,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

You should definitely use a 65-watt charger for your HP EliteBook 840 G5 Notebook PC, as higher wattage chargers 'run' (significantly) cooler than a lower wattage charger.

A quality 65-watt charger for your laptop can be purchased very affordably (around $12), such as this example: Amazon.com: 65W Laptop Charger for HP 15 Laptop Replacement elitebook 840 G3 850 G3 840 G5 840 G4 83....

Hope this was helpful.

Using a power adapter that provides more wattage is not going to overcome a cooling issue.

Have you ever used compressed air in a can or otherwise (must be 5 psi or less) to blow out the dust that accumulates in the intake and exhaust ports and on the fan blades?

You might have to consider having the graphics solution and processor thermal paste redone.

Use a high quality brand, such as Arctic Silver.

@JonaidHasan,

I reread your question and noticed that you said that the heating issue occurred within your laptop.  Even though I would still recommend a higher wattage charger, however, given your question, your issue may point to a failing battery.  Does your battery discharge rather quickly, is it not holding a charge for very long, and/or takes a long time to fully recharge?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, consider a battery replacement, such as this example: Amazon.com: SS03XL 933321-855 Battery for HP EliteBook 840 G5,EliteBook 730 735 740 745 830 846 G5, ....

@JonaidHasan,

And yes, as @erico correctly pointed out, if your heating issues are not related to your battery/charger, his solution would likely be the way to go.
