HP elitebook 840 G4
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi everybody,

Working on an elitebook 840 g4  prodID: x3v02av

This model shipped with the matte HD screen 1920x1080.   I also own another HP laptop, a much less expensive model with a gorgeous glossy HD screen.  Needless to say I was not impressed with the matte screen.  So I decided to do something about it. At this point I have purchased and installed an entire glossy HD screen with the same resolution, with the addition of touch digitizer.  Spare part number: 821178-001.

The display is connected properly and the new screen assembly has an additional connector which matches up with my motherboard.  I assumed that plugging it in and reflashing the bios would be all I needed to go touchscreen.  Silly me.

So this is what I know. The touchscreen does not work in bios or in windows.  There is no missing driver in windows.  I installed the atmel drivers for this panel but they are not bound to any hardware at the moment because the device is not working properly.  There is no touchscreen test in the bios based hardware test, which leads me to believe I need to enable it first somehow.  I downloaded the HP bios configuration utility (BCU)  but when I look at the text list of options to choose from I don't see anything I think would be helpful.

Then doing some more digging I find out about DMIFIT software that is used to configure replacement motherboards.  Is the solution I am looking for here?  My logic on this is that there is a configuration code or number set here that could be changed to inform bios of the current hardware configuration.  Anyone have some insight?  I've obtained nbdmifit 2.07 but have yet to check it out.  Help before I do something dumb and brick my machine please.

probably should add that the display portion of the new screen is working flawlessly, it's just the touch aspect I need help with.
