I found a link that suggests that you can put a m.2 drive in this 8470W laptop, but then I found a link that said I couldn't depending on the year it was relased. I don't know how to know if I can. Here is the link that says I can http://www8.hp.com/il/en/products/oas/product-detail.html?oid=7633917#!tab=features. I found HP documentation that says that it has a msata slot, but no mention of PCIe, which would be required to put in the drive mentioned in the link. The answer that said it depends on date came from this forum, so I feel I have a maybe answer that I don't know how to reslove. I know I can't put in a msata drive if I am using a mobile data module, but I can't find anything on m.2. I also don't know how to tell if any m.2 drive would work. there is nvme and different raid options and I read something about just because it has a PCIe slot it does not mean you can put a M.2 drive in it depends on if the port is designed to both read and write or I/O capability. Anyway in the end my question is can I put in a M.2 drive and in what ways am I limited on the type of M.2 drive?

Hi
How do you know that when the product HP 256GB SSD M.2 2260 PCIe drive (L3M57AA link included below) says it is compatible with my model? It has a I7 3630QM if that helps. I still don't see how It know it is not comptible. Do you see where it sugests it is compatible on this site: http://www8.hp.com/il/en/products/oas/product-detail.html?oid=7633917#!tab=features ? The documents mentioned don't mention a M.2 interface based on searching the document, but I was not certain it just was not mentioned or that it was not mentioned another way.
Thank you,
Brock

My tech's and I have refurbished 100's of the 8470w and I have never seen one with an M.2 slot.
The Intel I7-3630QM was released over 6 years ago:
https://ark.intel.com/products/71459/Intel-Core-i7-3630QM-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3-40-GHz-
So then the Manuals, Specs, Videos and Part Locator are incorrect and the AD is correct???

Hi RoeST51,
I just want to figure out how to put in a HDD and an SSD. This person claims having 3 drives. Site is here: https://www.gearslutz.com/board/music-computers/1151798-elitebook-8470w-upgrade-i7-3940xm.html.

Can you tell me how this is possible? I have been into several laptops, but I have not tried to locate a M.2 drive port before. He mentioned that the 3940xm processor was officially supported and I saw it today on a document that said it was only supported for the HP 8470W, that was like a specs document listing all of the different processors it could take, but most things don't mention it and now I can't figure out where I found it to show you, but it looked like it was an official HP document. Let me know what your thoughts are.
Thank you,
Brock
