Hi there,
I had to clean the CPU fan and therefore i had to completely open up my used HP ProBook 470 G1.
In the process of re-combining all parts again, I had to connect the keyboard and asked
myself, where to connect that thin flat cable, that maybe is the power supply for the
back light. It seems, that there is no connector for that cable.. ?
(I know all the stuff about the keyboard button and FN+ to activate the back light,
but without power, you can push the button(s) as often as you like - it wön't work.)
My keyboard:
(on a sticker on the big flat cable)
Model: 780170-041 GER
SG-61320-2DA
IEC P/N: 6037B0104304
LITEON SN9123BL
CT: BERXT018B7V0NT Rev: A01
SPARES: 787801-041
and the not connected thin flat cable
(on a sticker on the KB back side: T02-45)
My question(s):
Is there a way, a workaround, to get it to work ?
Maybe I have to solder a connector on the mainboard ?
How can I get power into the cable for the light ?
I really would like to see it working...
Thanks for your hints or tutorials...

Service Manual:
The Part Number you list 780170-041 is not found in this Manual for the G1. It is for the G2 version of the Probook 470.
The 470 G2 does have the option of a backlit keyboard. So there is no header on your motherboard to attach the backlight cable but the keyboard you have apparently works as a non-backlit. Apparently the original keyboard was replaced at some point in its past life. Compare p. 10 in the two Manuals. The G1 does not show a backlight key on the keyboard; the G2 does.

Hi Huffer,
thanks for your reply and for clearing things...
Sorry, that I'm answering now, but I had and still have a cold...
Today is one of the better days...
Well, well... I can be very insistant, because the main
question is not solved yet.
I'm still looking for a way to connect that 2nd flat cable
even if there is no header for it..
In the end, I just need a (+) and (-)... the right volts and current..
But it has to be possible to use pins from the mainboard.. solder
two cables to them.. the cable(s) are soldered to a free moving (isolated) header...
et voila ! .. I can put the 2nd cable into the "moving" header...
Hmm.. Okay.. okay.. I still have to know, how the flat cable is connected.
Where is the position of the (+)-signal and the (-)-signal...
I am experimental...
I'll try it anyway, but better with the support from the experts.

We are not going to discuss modifying the motherboard for obvious reasons. And even if you could connect the header and power it the key to turn the backlight on and off would have to be supported by the motherboard and it would not be so I am not even sure you could turn the backlight on.

Hi Huffer,
thanks for your answer and your point.
Well, you don't know me..
but it is astonishing, how underestimated one would be...
Well.. if i have to... i install a little switch on the surface of the laptop
to control the on/off of the back light... I have no fear to do, what I have to...
to get it working.. with or without your help.
If I break things, there are spare parts to replace it...
So, I'm looking forward to a bright light, coming from
my backlit keyboard, while typing on it during the nights...
Thanks and Bye !
