When I connect my PC to the adapter, it doesn't start charging. However, when I switch to a different charger, it begins charging normally. At first, I assumed the issue was with the original charger, but when I tested it with another laptop, it worked perfectly. So now I'm unsure whether the problem lies with the charger or the PC.

@MA599, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

The situation you've described could be due to various reasons, and we can try a few troubleshooting steps to isolate the problem:

Inspect the Charger Port and Adapter:

  • Make sure there are no foreign objects or debris in the laptop's charging port.
  • Check for any visible damage on the charger and the charging cable.
  • Try using a different power outlet.

Use an Original HP Charger:

  • Ensure you are using an HP charger specifically designed for your laptop model. Using a non-HP charger might not be compatible, even if it fits the charging port.

Check the Power Adapter Rating:

  • Verify that the voltage and current ratings of the adapter you're using match those required by your laptop. Using a charger with incorrect specifications might cause charging issues.

Test with Battery Removed:

  • Some HP laptops allow you to remove the battery. If possible, try removing the laptop's battery and starting the device using the charger alone. This can determine if the battery is causing the problem.

Inspect the Battery:

  • An issue with the battery itself can lead to irregular charging. If the battery is removable, examine it for any signs of damage or wear.

BIOS and Driver Updates:

  • Ensure your BIOS and HP Support Assistant tools are up-to-date. Sometimes, updating the system drivers and BIOS can resolve hardware recognition issues.

Power Reset:

  • Perform a power reset by shutting down the laptop, disconnecting it from any power source, and removing the battery if possible. Hold down the power button for about 15 seconds, then reconnect the charger and battery.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
