Dear HP Support Team,
I purchased an HP laptop with AMD Ryzen™ 5 5600H processor from Amazon. Before updating the BIOS, everything was working correctly, and the system recognized the correct processor and SSD.
However, after performing a BIOS update, the system now incorrectly shows my processor as AMD Ryzen 5 3550H with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx, 2100 MHz, 4 Cores, 8 Logical Processors, instead of the original Ryzen 5 5600H.
Additionally, the SSD is no longer being detected, while only the HDD is showing up in the system.
This has created serious performance and functionality issues. I kindly request your urgent assistance to:
-
Help me restore the correct BIOS/firmware for my laptop.
-
Ensure my original processor (Ryzen 5 5600H) and SSD are properly recognized again.
Please let me know the steps to recover my system or if you recommend a service center visit.
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
I’m sorry to hear about the issues you’re experiencing after the BIOS update. That must be very frustrating. Let’s work on getting this resolved.
Here’s what I recommend to restore your system:
Perform a BIOS Recovery or Rollback:
If your laptop supports BIOS recovery, you can try reverting to the previous BIOS version using HP’s BIOS recovery feature.
Visit the official HP Support site for your laptop model and download the earlier BIOS version if available.
Follow the HP BIOS update and recovery instructions carefully to avoid further issues.
Here’s a helpful link for BIOS recovery procedures:
HP BIOS Update and Recovery
Reset BIOS Settings to Default:
Enter BIOS setup during startup (usually by pressing Esc or F10).
Choose the option to load default or optimized default settings.
Save and exit, then check if the CPU and SSD are recognized correctly.
Check Storage Configuration in BIOS:
Within BIOS, ensure the SSD controller is enabled and correctly configured (e.g., SATA mode set to AHCI).
Sometimes BIOS updates reset these settings, which can cause the SSD to disappear.
Update Chipset Drivers:
Once the BIOS issue is resolved and the system boots, update chipset and storage drivers from the HP Support site for your model.
If you want, I can help you step-by-step through the BIOS recovery or provide direct links for your specific laptop model. Please share your exact laptop model number if you’d like more precise instructions.
I’m here to assist you throughout this process.
