Product: HP Pavilion dv7-6b56nr Entertainment Notebook PC
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

How can I definitively find out if a faster APU will work in my DV 7 before I go out and buy it? (it's NOT returnable).
I've been told there is a number on the motherboard?
Is there a different way to find out without opening up the laptop?
I want to replace an A6-3400 with an A8-3550MX.

Refer to chapter 1 of the maintenance and service guide on your notebook's support page for the list of supported AMD processors.

 

HP Pavilion dv7-6b56nr Entertainment Notebook PC Manuals | HP® Customer Support

 

Looks like the best processor you can upgrade to would be the AMD® A8-3550MX 2.70-GHz processor.
