@SAI1997, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
If your HP notebook with Windows 10 is experiencing issues such as audio muting unexpectedly, difficulty scrolling in a browser, and delayed meeting access, here's how you can address these problems:
Audio Problems
Check Audio Drivers:
- Update your audio drivers by using HP Support Assistant or visiting the HP website to download the latest version available for your model.
Check Audio Settings:
- Ensure your audio settings are correctly configured in your control panel and sound settings.
- Test your sound with different applications to see if the issue persists.
Run Windows Troubleshooter:
- Use the built-in Windows troubleshooter for audio problems by typing "Troubleshoot settings" in the taskbar search box, selecting "Additional troubleshooters," and choosing "Playing audio."
Browser Scrolling and Performance Issues
Check Browser Extensions:
- Disable unnecessary browser extensions to see if this resolves the scrolling issue.
Clear Cache and Cookies:
- Regularly clear your browser's cache and cookies. This can improve browser performance and eliminate lag.
Update Browser:
- Ensure your web browser is updated to the latest version.
Check for System Updates:
- Make sure your Windows OS is up-to-date by checking for updates in Windows Update settings.
General Performance Improvements
Disk Defragmentation:
- Use Disk Defragmenter to optimize your hard drive, possibly improving system performance. Type "defragment" into the taskbar search box and select "Defragment and Optimize Drives."
Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics:
- Use HP PC Hardware Diagnostics to evaluate your system's hardware components. Reboot your computer and press F2 to start diagnostics.
Check Memory Usage:
- Analyze your system's memory usage, especially during intensive tasks like meetings. Close unnecessary applications and tabs before joining meetings.

Yes I have tried to update the audio drivers but it shows the drivers are upto date. And the scrolling issue is not only with browsers it is with notepad and other app as well. I don't have heavy weight application in my laptop.is it advisable to format complete laptop and install os again?

Hey @SAI1997,
Thank you for your response
Thank you for the details, and I can understand how frustrating this issue must be for you. Since the issue persists across multiple apps (not just browsers), it's likely not limited to a specific software but could be related to system settings, drivers, or even OS configurations.
Before considering a full reinstallation of the OS, I’d suggest we try a few more troubleshooting steps to avoid the time and effort of a complete system format:
Check for OS Updates:
Sometimes, even if the drivers are up to date, the OS itself might have pending updates that can resolve compatibility issues. Ensure that Windows is fully updated.
Adjust Touchpad/Mouse Settings:
If you are using a laptop with a touchpad, go to the touchpad settings and check for any unusual configurations, such as gestures or scroll settings. You can access this by searching for "Touchpad" in the Start menu and adjusting settings accordingly.
Reinstall Graphics and Input Drivers:
Even though the audio drivers are up to date, there might be other system drivers (like graphics or input devices) that could be causing the issue. I would recommend reinstalling the graphics drivers and checking for updates to any input device drivers (keyboard, mouse, etc.).
Test in Safe Mode:
Booting your laptop in Safe Mode can help identify if the issue is related to third-party software or configurations. If scrolling works fine in Safe Mode, then a third-party application might be causing the issue.
System File Checker:
Run the built-in System File Checker (sfc /scannow) to check for any corrupted system files that might be affecting performance.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, and you’ve already backed up your important data, a clean installation of Windows could be a good option as a last resort. Formatting and reinstalling the OS can often clear up deep-rooted software issues, but I’d recommend trying the steps above first to avoid unnecessary reinstallation.
I hope this helps.
