I brought my HP Notebook 15-ay517TX in 2017 and now I want to upgrade my RAM and I have checked all required information that it supports DDR4 type and can handle up to 2100MHz and my question is it already has 4GB ram can I install a 8GB ram on 2nd slot and did it will increase my gaming experience and other editing works?

Hi:
Yes, you can add a compatible 8 GB memory chip to the 4 GB chip in there now and it should improve performance somewhat.
When you install memory modules in mismatched capacities, the memory runs in the lower performing single channel mode.
Installing memory in matching capacities such as 2 x 4 GB or 2 x 8 GB allows the memory to run in the higher performing dual channel mode.

Hi:
Flex mode (single channel) is a lower performing memory configuration.
That is what you get when you have an 8 GB chip plus a 4 GB chip.
Dual channel mode is what you get when you install matching capacity memory modules.
