@AGAU Greetings from the HP Community!
Active capacitive stylus pens require a digitizer built in to the screen to allow communication between the touch screen and the pen.
Not all computer and tablet models feature the necessary digitizer: click here to verify
I'm afraid the device does not support active stylus, instead I suggest a passive stylus (also known as capacitive stylus) functions the same as your finger on the screen. Passive styluses do not require batteries, and they work on any touch screen device.
I hope that answers your query,

Thanks for your reply. Since posting I have tried to find out a solution for myself. When I look at the HP pen on the HP website it shows a list of compatible products. Aq1025tu is on that list. This information is very difficult to find and contradictory. I have now it seems, purchased a laptop which my daughters school will not accept on their network.

@AGAU What network are you referring to? Also, I understand it isn't easy to get this information, however, we are working on making that easier, and in the mean time we can get that information to you as I just did.
Let me know if you need anything else.
