HP Notebook - 15-da0016ne
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I bought this laptop a week ago and it has a 1TB HDD installed. I want to upgrade to an SSD but I want to know if I can buy M.2 NVME for it. Now I found the manual for the laptop online:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06147959

It says on page 48 that there's a solid state bracket and connector board. How do I know if my laptop model has those or not?

I don't want to open it in order not to void the warranty. The HP authorized store will do the upgrade for me but I need to know what to buy now.

Thank you in advance

@gbahry,

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I understand you need information and assistance regarding upgrading the SSD on your HP notebook. No worries, I'll be glad to help you.

I did go through the product specifications of your PC and found that your PC is shipped with Intel® Core™ i7-8550U (1.8 GHz base frequency, up to 4 GHz with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology, 8 MB cache, 4 cores) Processor and 1 TB 5400 rpm SATA Hard drive.

I would suggest you check the Maintenance and service guide of your notebook.

These parts are compatible and tested on your PC.

There is one M.2 Slot available for Solid-State drive (Intel Core processors).

Dual storage FonƭgurDtions (Intel Core processors):

256 GB, PCIe, solid-state drive + 1 TB, 5400 rpm hard drive

256 GB, SATA-3, TLC, solid-state drive + 1 TB, 5400 rpm hard drive

128 GB, SATA-3, TLC, solid-state drive + 1 TB, 5400 rpm hard drive

Solid-state drive (M.2) with the spare part numbers in bold and underlined.

512 GB, PCIe, NVMe L20385-001

256 GB, PCIe, NVMe L20384-001

256 GB, SATA-3, TLC L20382-001

128 GB, SATA-3, TLC L20381-001

Hope this answers your question.

Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂

 Thank you for your reply. My concern is if the following parts are included in my laptop or I have to purchase them as well:

Solid-state drive bracket L20458-001

Solid-state drive connector board L22542-001

Solid-state drive cable L20456-001

Please if you can confirm this it will save me from having to reorder these later.

@gbahry,

Thank you for replying,

As I understand you have a concern regarding the parts, let me go ahead and explain you.

The parts listed under the Maintenance and service guide are the parts which are compatible and tested on your PC.

If you wish to upgrade, you can try one of these parts and this should fit inside your computer and it should work.

You could try installing third party hardware at your own discretion, however, HP Doesn't recommend any upgrade/downgrade of any hardware parts or software that is bundled with the product. It may affect the manufacturer's warranty and performance.

I hope this answers your question. Let me know if you need any further assistance.

Take care and have a great week ahead 🙂

Regards,

Thank you again and sorry if I'm asking again. The entire point of my question, is if I send it to HP to get the SSD upgrade, will they charge me just for the SSD? Or will they have to add the extra parts (connector board, bracket, and cable)?

I just wonder if they're already in my laptop or not. I don't want to open it to find out because that will void the warranty that is all!

So, do these parts come with all laptop models under this manual by default, or are they removed if the laptop didn't have a SSD from the factory?

@gbahry,

Thank you for replying,

As I understand you would like to know if you send the computer for upgrading the SSD, will they charge for the SSD. Let me explain you how that works.

When you send in the computer for repair, they will go ahead and diagnose the issue and if they find any part which is malfunctioning they will go ahead replace only those parts.

They will not help in upgrading the parts, In this scenario, If you're not comfortable in replacing the part you can always take help of the local tech or you can take it to any authorized service store.

I just wonder if they're already in my laptop or not. I don't want to open it to find out because that will void the warranty that is all!  - Your PC was shipped only with 1 TB hard drive, these parts which are listed under the maintenance and service guide are If you wish to upgrade in any point of time in the future, you can opt for these parts which are tested and compatible for your PC.

I would personally suggest you contact a local tech who can help you with this issue.

 Take care now and do have a fabulous week ahead. 🙂
