Envy 17-t ce000
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just purchased this new Envy 17-t with a 512gig M.2 type drive.   I want to add a large SSD drive as well.  Based on what I can tell there is a place for the SSD but my question is will the system have the required rubber "caddy" and cable required to install the SSD?   For some reason HP has this part but doesn't sell this in their parts store and I haven't been able to find an aftermarket match.  If the parts aren't included and I can't buy them I'm going to return the Laptop, otherwise I would just open it up and look.

Thanks in advance

You don't need to open it the caddy and cable are not included when you buy it with an M.2 SSD.

Hard drive connector/cable L52656-001

Hard drive rubber holder L52662-001

Yes the parts beginning with "L" are darn near impossible to find. If you MUST have a hard drive or second SSD then return it.

Just installing a larger 1 or 2 TB NVME SSD would be an option and likely no more expensive than a SATA SSD and adapter hardware assuming you could ever find the latter.

Wish I had a more specific answer for you.

Thanks so much for your quick reply.  There are aftermarket options galore on Amazon for other 17-t models.  Wondering if it's just so new they haven't made one yet.  I'll make a call tomorrow.   So crazy that HP refuses to sell parts that they obviously have.  The larger M.2 is a good suggestion as well but I was kind of hoping to have the OS on a separate physical drive.

I hear you. New is not the problem. We have been seeing this for the last 18-24 months on the "L" parts. Sometimes they will show up from 3rd parties on eBay but often you just never see them in the market. There are a series of posts here by folks who have experimented with other similar hard drive cables. The cable is an absolute requirement. You can buy a similar rubber sleeve and modify it to fit your case with an Xacto knife but you can't make a cable.

Well I think I've resigned myself to live with the addition of a 512gig SD card with the idea that if need be I'll eventually be able to add an SSD or replace the M.2 with a larger size.   As you seem to have a great deal of expertise I'm curious as to whether there are any other known and common issues with this Laptop or this particular series of laptops.  It being the Envy 17-t ce000 series which seems for some reason to be an uncommon model, at least it doesn't turn up much with a google search.

Other than they tend to run a bit hot, no. It's a super high end gaming laptop so not so many people buy them. Your SD card solution is a very good practical workaround.
