I want to add or upgrade from 1TB HD to 500SSD.  Is there a slot in the computer to add SSD or does the HD have to be removed and replaced with SSD?  I am looking for the simplest way to switch to SSD.  I am not too concerned about keeping the HD.  I am guessing that if I have the HD replaced I would get a 2.5" SSD and if I don't remove the HD I would get a M.2.  Is this correct?  The local Microsoft store will do the actual installation for me, but i want to make sure I buy the correct SSD.

Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community.

I reviewed the case regarding the query about solid state drive upgrade.. I will be delighted to assist you here.

This notebook can go for 256 GB solid-state drive (SSD). Follow this link and refer page no : 32

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. 😉

Thanks for the quick answer.  One final question -- You mention adding a 256 GB SSD.  Is there any reason that I cannot add a 512 GB SSD?

Thanks for the response.

That's the one which is recommended by HP, considering the motherboard configuration.
