Hello,
I would like to add another memory chip to the second available slot.
The one installed in the first slot has a 4 GB DDR3L SDRAM.
Can I add another memory chip?
What is the maximum capacity?
I am attaching a picture of the slots.
The laptop has a 2TB SATA HDD. I am not sure if I should replace it with a SSD, because the later is prone to errors.
Thank you,
Best Regards

Hi:
Your notebook can support up to 2 x 8 GB of DDR3L-1600 memory.
You can replace the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" SATA SSD.

Hello Paul,
Thank you for your reply and very helpful information.
I am upgrading to Windows 11, and found a Samsung SSD EVO 870 SATA, (on Amazon es is more expensive, but I can find cheaper, about 15 more than WD)
Samsung 870 EVO 2.5" 500GB Serial ATA III V-NAND MLC : Amazon.es: Computers
Is it better and reliable?
Will it make a difference?
Thank you,

Hello Paul,
When I started reading the manual to learn how to install the memory module, I read on page 9 and 10, that the maximum supported memory is 8 GB.
I think the cpu can handle up to 16 gb - 2 X 8 GB, but I am not sure.
Is this limitation addressed by HP manual an issue regarding the motherboard or BIOS?
A BIOS upgrade will solve the issue?
If I can´t install 2 X 8 GB, what do you recommend: 1 X 8G or 2 X 4 GB?

Thank you

Hi:
Run this command and you will find that the notebook will support 2 x 8 GB of memory:
1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.
This will open the command prompt.
2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and press the enter key.
There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.
The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.
This site also indicates the max memory is 2 x 8 GB for the model series:

You're very welcome.
I'm surprised.
Just add another 4 GB DDR3L-1600 memory chip in the empty slot.
I don't think a BIOS update will increase the memory capacity but if you want to update the BIOS, this was the last one released for your notebook:

Run the memory command again if you decide to update the BIOS.
