Hi,

The best idea (and probably cheapest) for your notebook is to replace the 128GB M2 SATA3 SSD with a larger capacity and much faster M2 PCIe NVMe SSD. There is no limit to capacity. Something like the Samsung 970 Evo Plus would be great. But even much cheaper ones such as the Crucial P2 will be much faster than any 2.5" SATA3 Drive.

Ex:

On page 40 of service manual you can see the steps to replace the drive

Now to answer your question.

The parts you need

Hard drive cable     part number L51095-001

Hard drive cover   For use in models without a fingerprint reader     part number L51121-001 (you could also use some strong foamy double sided tape to keep the drive in place)

Hope it helps,

David

I have a few SATA 2.5 drives around, and I prefer to reuse this disk, I will store only mpg and jpg. But you are rigth, it will be much cheapest to buy a new m.2 disk than reuse the HD.

I like the old days, when I was able to conect a disk to  a computer, and I have all the things ... maybe it is my last HP computer.

Most modern notebooks are moving away from 2.5 " drives and will have one or two M2 slots (not only HP). They need a lot less space and are much faster.

You could get a SATA to USB cable, housing or dock and that way store all the pictures and movies on the 2.5 " drives you have around.

yes, I am aware that if we want a slim device we have to pay for it, but this notebook has the space, and a solid plastic square in the place, for the disk. But it lacks the cable .. a 50€ one ... and that is the point .. it is cheapest a new m.2 device that this cable.

I am disapointted.
