Hiya,
I'm at the end of my tether on this question - I'm getting sent round in circles with HP support for the past 6 months - they just won't help me and close the support cases I open, directing me on wild goose chases elsewhere within HP "support" to no end. Rant over.
I want to add a second HDD (say 512Gb or 1Tb) to my son's HP ENVY x360 - 15-ds0004na. Apparently I need to get a HDD caddy to do this properly...but I cannot find out the part number I need for that nor what type of HDD I should get. Does anyone have any info they can share? I suppose my 3 year warranty support would be invalidated by me opening the case all by myself, but hey ho.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Cheers
Mark

Hi, Mark:
You will need to replace the 256 GB NVMe SSD with one having a larger storage capacity.
Here is the link to the service manual...Only M.2 SSD's are supported. No 2.5" drives were offered, hence no parts to add a 2.5" drive are available.

Hi Paul_T,
Many thanks for your message. It sounds like you're saying it's not possible to add a second HDD. I bought my daughter a similar laptop (it's HP 15" Envy x360 too). It's the same size but hers has 2 x drives, so I had assumed it might be possible to upgrade the single-drive one(?) Otherwise, the links you posted are useful, thank you, and some of my respect is returned to HP for hosting this resource, at least 🙂
Regards,
Mark

You're very welcome, Mark.
If you look at chapter 1 of the service manual, HP only lists M.2 drives as offered in that model series.
Storage
Support for the following solid-state drives:
● 512-GB, Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIe), Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe), solidstate drive with triple level cell (TLC)
● 256-GB, PCIe, NVMe, solid-state drive with TLC
● 256-GB, PCIe, NVMe, value solid-state drive
● 128-GB, M.2, SATA-3 solid-state drive with TLC
If you look at chapter 3 of the service manual, you will not see any part numbers listed for 2.5" drives or any drive cables, caddies and whatnot.
If you look at chapter 5 of the service manual, you will not see any procedure to remove or replace a 2.5" drive.
