Add additional SSD to Pavilion

Hi,

When I bought I thought that 256GB SSD was enough space for my tasks. But now I need more, does anyone know if I could put an extra ssd in my laptop. If somebody does know, which type of ssd whould you recommend?

If you have any solution or tip whatsoever, feel free to anwser 🙂

Hi, Sem:

What I recommend you do is to remove the currently installed M.2 SSD and replace it with one having a larger storage capacity.

There is only one M.2 slot for a SSD which is currently occupied by the one in there now, and most likely, none of the parts are there to install a 2.5" drive.

The service manual is for the older model series, but it should still apply to yours.

See if your notebook is supported by the HP cloud recovery tool which you can use to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook on the new M.2 SSD

First of all, thanks for helping!

So, if I want bigger storage I should replace my current SSD? 

And do you recommend other upgrades besides the SSD replacement?

You're very welcome.

While you are upgrading the SSD to one having a larger storage capacity, you may as well upgrade the memory too.

That would be the only other upgrade I can think of that you can perform.

Please post the product number of your notebook so I can check to see how much memory it can take.

According to the report, you can install as much as 2 x 32 GB of memory in your notebook.

So, I will leave it up to you as to how much memory you want to install.

I think 2 x 32 GB of memory is overkill and would be very expensive.

You may just want to take the least expensive approach and install an 8 GB DDR4-2666 MHz memory module in the empty slot and have 16 GB of memory.

Or you may want to add a 16 GB chip in the empty slot and have 24 GB of memory.

This would be a compatible DDR4-2666 MHz memory chip for your notebook...

You may want to run this free utility that I zipped up and attached below to see what speed memory HP installed in your notebook.

It should be 2666 MHz but it could also be 3200 MHz running at 2600 MHz.

If it is 3200 MHz, you would want to get DDR4-3200 memory so that it matches the memory spec that HP installed in your ntoebook.

I think I am going to add a 8GB extra. You were telling:

Now I do not know that, so I run the program you zipped. I dont know if I'm looking at the right things but I am seeing the following:

This is not 2666MHz nor 32000MHz. What should I do then, or did I look at the wrong things?

You want the report info just above what you posted.

You will see a memory module section and below that you should see the memory module description.

This is what mine shows...

Ahh, I see. Mine is DDR4-2666 / PC4-21300 DDR4 SDRAM SO-DIMM

So that means I should buy a 8 or 16GB (whatever I decide) that is 2666MHz ?

That is correct.

Buy one of the DDR4-2666 Memory modules I posted.

Crucial guarantees compatibility, so that is why I made that recommendation.
