HP ENVY Notebook - 17t-n000 CTO (Touch) (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Greeting's.

I have a laptop, an HP Envy 17t-n000, CTO. It comes with an HDD of 1 TB, and I noted that there is a specific empty bay for SSD M.2, so I did some research to know what kind of SSD M.2 can be compatible with my main board. I found a pdf manual from HP's official web site entitled "HP ENVY Notebook Intel Models 17-n100 17-n199 3D camera Models 17-r100 17-r199 (worldwide) 3D camera Models m7-r100 m7-r199 (North America)" that contains 120 pages, which say what configuration I can do in my laptop, and that mention is on the 2nd page:

Dual storage configurations:

● 1-TB + 256 GB M.2 SATA SSD (TLC)

● 4-TB: 2-TB (5400-rpm) x 2

SSD configurations:
, (available for i7 + GTX PCA)

● 512 GB M.2 SATA SSD (TLC)

● 128 GB M2 SATA-3 (TLC)

● 128 GB M2 SATA-3 (TLC) value

I know that I can only install a SATA-3 M.2 SSD in the M.2 slot, I can either replace a 2.5" HDD with a 2.5" SSD, or just keep the 1TB 2.5" HDD that I already have and If I want to combine a SSD M.2 SATA-3 and a SSD SATA-3 2.5" will work fine too.

Here is my SSD M.2 Slot photo taked from my laptop.

Someone can confirm that my laptop is only compatible with SSD M.2 with B key?

You're very welcome.

I have personally installed a SATA M.2 SSD in a HP M.2 slot with only one notch, and it fits and works just fine.

The other notch just doesn't make contact with the pins on the other side of the slot.

I installed a WD Blue SA510 250 GB and as you can see from the picture that also has two notches.

I think almost every SATA M.2 SSD does.

Amazon.com: Western Digital 250GB WD Blue SA510 SATA Internal Solid State Drive SSD - SATA III 6 Gb/...

NVMe SSD's don't work in my PC's M.2 slot either. Not supported.

Now I can't say with 100% certainty that a 1 TB SATA SSD will work because the service manual indicates only 512 GB M.2 SATA SSD's were offered in the model series, but I don't know of any reason why it wouldn't.

Hi:

Yes, that is correct.

Only SATA M.2 SSD's are supported.

Every HP notebook's M.2 slot has one key, which someone would wrongly assume it would support a NVMe SSD in that model.

That is why it is a good thing you read the manual which indicates that only SATA M.2 SSD's are supported.

If you were to install a NVMe SSD in the slot, nothing would happen.

It would be as if you had nothing installed in the slot.

Hi Paul_Tikkamen.

First of wall, thank you for your reply.

I undestand what you are explaining.

My issue is that do not want to buy a wrong product. I want to buy this product in Amazon:

TEAMGROUP MS30 1TB con caché SLC 3D NAND TLC M.2 2280 SATA III =

Amazon.com: TEAMGROUP MS30 1TB con caché SLC 3D NAND TLC M.2 2280 SATA III 6Gb/s Unidad interna de e...

Buy if you see the picture that I uploaded in the previous post, I have just one (1) key in the bay, and the product that I want to buy have two (2) keys. Should I need to looking for another product with just one (1) key?
