Hello!
Is there a second M.2 slot in 16-h1053dx (9U360UA)? Can I ADD a second SSD? I cannot find a maintenance manual for this exactly model. But there are manuals for some similar models, they have the second M.2 for 2080 SSD.
Thanks!

Hi:
According to the product specs the model series has support for two M.2 NVMe SSD's.

Below is the link to the only service manual HP provides for the model series:
It is for the previous 16-h0xxx model series.
Maintenance and Service Guide (hp.com)
If you look at the illustration in chapter 5, page 39, it shows the location of the two M.2 SSD's.
We asked HP about why they don't update the service manuals when new models in the series come out and they told us that only one manual will be released for a model series when it first comes out for the consumer notebook products.
For example, this manual will cover all 16-h models that HP releases to market...if there is a 16-h2xxx model series, that will use this manual as well.
But if you look at the service video, it is very confusing.
When you look at the procedure to remove the bottom cover, it only shows one M.2 SSD location after the cover is removed.
When you look at the procedure to remove the battery you clearly see an empty M.2 slot on the left above the battery.
When you look at the procedure to remove the SSD, they only talk about the one below the fans.

I could only find posts regarding the 16-h0xxx:
This person said the notebook has two slots and added a NVMe SSD in the empty slot. See the last reply.

If you have any doubts, I recommend you remove the bottom cover and make sure there's a second NVMe slot before buying another drive.

Thank you very much for your detailed answer. I am sure they not let me to open the laptop in their store. So I will wait for some review from a real user of this model.

Thank you so much for your contribution to this thread.
I have a question regarding the absence of a copper heatsink in the second PCIe 4.0 slot. From my understanding, these disks tend to reach high temperatures due to their fast read/write speeds, which could potentially lead to damage over time. Such drives are often used in custom PC setups or PS5 systems, where the addition of a heatsink is highly recommended.
I am planning to add a second SSD to my system for installing Ubuntu and running computationally intensive tasks such as molecular dynamics simulations and other bioinformatics programs. However, I am concerned about potential thermal issues with a drive like Samsung's 990 Pro (PCIe 4.0 with DRAM and Cache), especially since adding a heatsink is not feasible in my laptop setup.
Could you please share your input on this matter? I’ve found limited information online about upgrading this type of SSD in laptops where heatsinks cannot be used.
