OMEN 15-AX250WM
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I need to add M2 ssd to my OMEN 15AX250WM

I checked the user guide and parts manual but I'm still confused on the type of M2 I can use.

I know the laptop allows PCIe3 and SATA III, in size 2280 but not sure on the shape of the connection; is it B, M or B+M? The manual shows B+M as the connection, yet, I saw pictures online of open Omens with B connection and people using Samsung 960 EVO which comes in B.

I do not want to open the laptop to check, so want to know what connection is used so i can buy the right SSD.

product # AX250WM.

Where are you coming up with that info?

The Samsung Evo 960 uses M key.

All the Omen series with the 7th gen CPU have an M.2 NVMe slot.

What you're probably getting confused with is that those others who posted images had to flip the SSD over to insert into the slot, putting the short side on the left.

Your m.2 will probably look like this one. it has 5 pins on the short side and it will take an M keyed SSD.

@moeadd

The following link shows specs of your computer

   https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c05609719

It has  1 TB 7200 rpm SATA as Single storage configuration/option therefore the chance to have M.2 slot is from slim to none. The ONLY thing you can do: open the case to find out.

Yeah Most likely the picture in the manual and what i found online confused me, but thank you for the clear response. I can buy a EVO 960 and it should work.

Yes.

Also, you can clone the HDD over to the SSD if you want, or clean install with the Media Creation Tool.

But you need to disconnect the HDD so you can boot from SSD. The Omen doesnt like having windows living on both drives. The HDD will have to be wiped after you get everything working.

Ty for all the informatino thus far.  I think I am going to add a asx8200 ssd to my ax250wm.

I use mostly linux

Does anyone know any reason why it might be hard to install linux from a USB onto the a m.2 ssd?

Any strange things I should know about or bios settings I need to change?

You might have to turn off Secure boot and enable Legacy, otherwise no issues.

I assume you are not going to run dual boot.
