Hi @JohnA4361,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
I understand your laptop is making a sizzling or crackling noise from the underside, and you’re concerned it might be a hardware issue. Let’s go through a few steps to identify and reduce what could be causing this.

a. Verify Noise Source
Place your ear near the keyboard, vents, and charging port area to pinpoint where the sound is coming from.
If the noise is faint and changes with performance or charging, it’s likely coil whine from electronic components — which is generally harmless.
b. Check for Dust or Debris
Turn off the laptop and unplug it.
Use a can of compressed air to gently blow out dust from the cooling vents, as dust buildup can cause subtle crackling or sizzling sounds.
c. Observe During Charging
Plug in the charger and listen — if the noise increases, it could be coil whine from the power delivery components.
Try a different power outlet or a known-good HP charger to confirm if the adapter or power source contributes to the sound.
d. Monitor Temperature and Fan
Install the HP Hardware Diagnostics or HP Support Assistant tool to monitor system temperatures.
If the laptop is unusually warm or the fan sounds inconsistent, clean the vents and ensure proper airflow around the device. Avoid using it on soft surfaces like beds or cushions.
e. Perform a Hard Reset
 Shut down the laptop completely.
Disconnect the charger and all external devices.
Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to discharge residual power, then reconnect the charger and turn it on.
I hope this helps.
