Hello- I am trying to figure out if I can add a 2nd SSD drive to above listed computer. I already swapped out the original hd to a 1TB SSD and it still has a M2 plug open which I believe was intended for the OPTANE memory but I understand it can also be used for an M2 SSD but what type? The plug only has one key slot in it but there seem to be multiple types out there. A friend was going to sell me an NVME 1TB M2 SSD but even though it has 1 key opening it will not fit the plug. Some have 2 key openings on them like optane memory chips but the plug only has one key. In any case any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Henry,
Your notebook supports M2 SATA3 SSD or M2 PCIe NVMe SSD. Do not worry about the notches, they will both fit (one or two notches on SSD) and they will both work. So your friends M2 PCIe NVMe SSD should fit right in, You are placing it in at an angle and then pushing down?
Examples
On page 45 of service manual you can see the steps to install the drive
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06148960
You will need to install the OS on the M2 SSD (if PCIe) for performance gain.
Hope it helps,
David
