HP OMEN 17-w200 CTO (X7N74AV)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi there!

I own a HP Omen 17 with product number: X7N74AV.  The system came equipped with a 500GB SDD, which I assume used the PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD slot.  So it means the only slot available now is the 2.5" HDD slot.

What I'd like to know is if I can purchase one of those 2.5" SATA SSD and add it to my laptop.  To be more specific, this is the drive I'm considering: https://www.newegg.com/samsung-500gb-870-evo-series/p/N82E16820147792

Could someone take a look and let me know if I'll be able to add the drive to my system using the 2.5" HDD connector available to me?  Also I'd like to know if there's a limit on the capacity of SDD that I can add to my system (I am thinking of getting the 2TB drive)?

Thanks a bunch! 😉

Hi,

Yes you can install an M2 SATA3 SSD of your preferred brand and capacity (no limit)

You should check if the connector/cable is in the machine or you will need to purchase it. You might want to buy the rubber bracket to keep the drive-in place or use some foamy double-sided tape to keep the drive in place.

Your OMEN is a CTO model so configurable at purchase. Depending on the graphics you have it has a different service manual

Maintenance & Service Guide: Models with GeForce GTX 1060/1070 graphics cards

Maintenance & Service Guide: Models with GeForce GTX 1050/1050 Ti graphics cards

So, yes the drive you linked is considered among the best.

Hope it helps,

David
