HP 255 G8 Notebook PC (347S5AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I d like to add an other hard disk (1TB)  to my pc. Giving a look at pc handbook I found some interesting notes.

I should need a Hard drive board L52024-001, Hard drive cable L52025-001 and a 1 TB, 5400 rpm L30422-005 hard disk.

I've found Hard drive board and Hard drive cable on a web store.

I guess I can put on a Seagate ST1000LM 048 as hard disk, because I've got already it.

I dont have a proper bracket, but i think I could do without it.

Is this enough? Is there anything to set in the BIOS?

I''ll appreciate any advice.

Thanks

You should definitely try out the 255 G8 self-help page. You might not be able to find all the drivers there, but it's a good start. For these AMD laptops the graphics driver is bundled together with the Chipset driver, so you should definitely install it.

Hello Albe76.

I've posted some months ago on the same issue with the similar 250 G9. You've done some excellent detective work by the way. These two parts should be enough. There's one small problem, however, if you actually intend on installing a HDD in the 2.5" slot. With a 2.5" SSD you don't have to worry about the bracket. You just have to find some makeshift way to get it to stay there. But with an actual hard drive, the bracket is needed to fasten it securely in place, otherwise the vibrations will prematurely damage it. According to HP's PartSurfer page, the HDD bracket is part number "N24893-001". Actually finding it is a different matter of course. If I were you, I'd just use a (much faster) SSD. A Samsung QVO 1TB will cost as much as a plain HDD, and you will get 5x higher speeds....

About any settings or changes to the BIOS setup, the 2.5" SATA port should already be enabled. If it's not (I doubt it), you won't find any relevant setting that you can change. Disabled ports and slots are configured through hidden advanced BIOS options that are not user-accessible. This was sometimes reported on some older models with a factory-fitted HDD, where the m.2 port wouldn't work -or was completely missing. Not the other way around....

Good luck!

Thank you for your suggestions. Briefly, I did it, it works. I can store many pieces of data. System looks realyable.

Recently, I've been tryng to install windows 10 pro for others activities in the hard drive, but i've been facing something unexpected. After installation, Computer management windows lists many warnings. PCI controller, System bus controller, network controller, multimedia controller and a couple of generic device are marked as without drivers.

I supposed not to find these kind of issues thinking that windows 10 installation could be enough. Should I try to find drives on HP portal? Thanks to dual boot setup , I'm using the main operating system stored on the original ssd at the moment, without any issue .

If you have some hints I'll apreciate it. Thanks in advance.
