HP Gaming Pavilion - 15-cx0020ca
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I'm looking to add an SSD to my HP Pavilion gaming laptop - model name is 15-cx0020ca. I currently have a 1TB HDD and a

128 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD and was wondering if I had space available to add an additional 500 GB SSD and if so what would be compatible. I was looking at adding a Samsung 970 EVO Plus M.2 NVMe 500GB SSD or the standard Samsung 970 EVO would this be a good option / do I even have an available slot? Also are there any additional parts that I will need to add this SSD. Any help appreciated, thanks.

Hi:

In order to upgrade either the 1 TB HDD or the 128 GB NVMe SSD, you would need to replace them.

There are no additional slots to add any other storage devices.

I would imagine that if you want to install a Samsung 970 NVMe SSD in place of the existing one, it should work fine.

Ah okay, thanks. The problem I then have is that my OS is on the SSD I currently have installed and I'm not sure how to move this over to a new SSD. Also are there any SSD options that won't be compatible with my laptop?

Thanks, again.

You're very welcome.

I would use the HP cloud recovery tool to reinstall W10 on the new SSD.

I would imagine that any decent brand NVMe M.2 SSD should work.   I do not know of any that are known not to work.

Appreciate it thanks. As I think I should be able to just move everything I want to save over to my HDD.

Glad to have been of assistance.
