HP 255 G7 Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I am looking at increasing my RAM on my laptop to play more advanced games but need to know the speed and size of the RAM that I want to upgrade rather than buy a new gaming laptop.

I know my graphics card is none replaceable but adding extra RAM is a start.

So does anyone know how I find out the one i need with regarding speed etc and maybe a good place to shop.

Jeff

Hi, Jeff:

What model AMD processor does your notebook have?

Hi Paul,

It has an AMD Athlon Silver 3050U with Radeon Graphics.

Hi:

Chapter 1 of the service manual does not do justice to the newer hardware included in the later 255 G7 models, as it doesn't include your notebook's processor.

I also completely disagree with the info provided regarding the Ryzen processors.

My 255 G7 has the A4-9125 processor, one memory slot, and the slot has an 8 GB memory chip that came that way from the factory.

Your notebook has two memory slots, so at the least, it would support 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) of memory, and probably 2 x 16 GB of memory.

Due to the partial inaccuracy of the manual, run this command, and you should be able to see how much memory your notebook can actually support.

Windows users can determine the maximum RAM capacity in the Command prompt with the command below.

wmic memphysical get MaxCapacity, MemoryDevices

Run the command prompt as an administrator.

It gives the final value in kilobytes which can be converted to gigabytes (divide the value by 1048576 to convert KB to GB).

If you want to install 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) of memory, this would be a compatible 8 GB memory chip for your PC:

Crucial 8GB DDR4-2666 SODIMM | CT8G4SFRA266 | Crucial UK

If the report indicates you can install 32 GB of memory, then you can buy two of these...
