Can I add an m.2 SSD to this product?  Will it accommodate PCIE drive?  If this is possible are there any other considerations that will mitigate the benefits of doing this such as interfaces that limit data transfer rates?  Any issues with migrating operating system and programs to the new drive? (. I plan on keeping existing HDD)

Hi:

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

Maintenance and Service Guide HP Pavilion 15 Laptop PC

Chapter 1 has the supported drive types.

According to the manual, your notebook has a M.2 slot that supports both SATA and NVMe SSD's.

The slot speed is probably PCIe 3.0 based on the hardware your notebook comes with, but no specs are provided.

NVMe SSD's provide considerably faster read/write speeds than SATA SSD's do but they also tend to run hotter because of the faster transfer speeds.

The only issue that you may come across that I can think of after you clone the current drive's contents to the SSD would be that the notebook will always want to boot from the 2.5" drive first if there is an operating system on it.

What I recommend you do after you clone the OS to the SSD, is to temporarily disconnect the 2.5" drive and make sure the notebook automatically boots from the SSD and works correctly.

Then connect the 2.5" drive back up.

If the notebook boots from the 2.5" drive, you will need to format the drive and use it only for storage.
