Pavillion 24-r055se
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I understand this model has space for an m.2 SSD.  Is this SATA?

If I add this m.2 SSD will the computer be able to boot from it if I have the operating system on it?

Not SATA but NVME which is better, faster. Specs say it comes with a 16 gig NVME M.2 disk.

The computer can use Optane technology which tasks the 16 gig NVME disk with accelerating the hard drive.

You can also use the M.2 disk if installed as the boot or OS disk but obviously you need something much bigger than 16 gigs. Like this maybe:

So just replace the 16 GB with, say, a 1 TB?  Then clone the existing HDD and change the boot order?

I think that is it in a nutshell.

However, I think you are also going to have to disable or turn off the Optane acceleration first:

It's me again, but how do I get the files for the OS (are they on the Optane module?) onto the larger NVME SSD so the computer boots?

Should I disable the Optane module, reboot, uninstall Optane, install a larger NVME SSD and then clone the HDD to the NVME?

Just want to be certain I don't make a mess of things!

Thanks for your help!

That is exactly right. Separate the Optane from the HDD in software, and only then swap the hardware then do the OS install or clone onto the NVME and you are good to go.
