Pavilion - 14-ce0502sa
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I recently purchased a HP Pavilion - 14-ce0502sa and it came with a 128 GB SSD.

I want to increase the storage, and was told I should be able to add a second hard drive so just have a few questions if anyone can help please.

Is it possible to add a second SSD drive to this model, and is it easy to access if so? Do I just need the appropriate Philliips screwdrivers or would there be other tools needed?

Would a 2.5 inch SATA be the drive I need? So something like this:
Kingston SA400S37/240G SSD A400 240 GB Solid State Drive (2.5 Inch SATA 3)

Is there a limit to the drive capacity I can install or could I choose a 480 GB or 960 GB drive if I chose?

Thanks for any help.

Hi,

Specs: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c06060933

Manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06133567

You can add a 2.5 inch SATA SSD in the hard drive bay in addition to the M.2 SSD already present in its slot.

Page 46 shows replacement procedure.

You need these two parts for adding 2.5 inch SATA SSD in the bay and connecting to the board:

The hard drive bracket is available using spare part number L19469-001. The hard drive cable is available using spare
part number L19172-001.

I do not know whether the model you would definitely work or not, but this should work: https://www.samsung.com/uk/memory-storage/850-evo-sata-3-2-5-inch-ssd/MZ-75E1T0BEU/

Any capacity would work, but higher ones are costlier.

Hi,

The cable to add a 2,5" are nearly impossible to find. It will probably be cheaper and better just to upgrade the M2 drive in the PC. It supports SATA3 drives such as the M2 Samsung 860 Evo and faster drives such as the M2 PCIe NVMe Samsung 970 Evo.

There is no limit to capacity, so you could use a 1TB or even more drive.

It is not a very difficult procedure. You need to remove the bottom cover. There are two screws under the back rubber feet, which you can peel back and then put back into place again. You can see on page 33 in service manual already linked by Expert @visruth

Hope it helps,

David

Thanks Visruth.

One issue.

The parts I need (L19469-001 and L19172-001) don't seem to be available through the HP Parts store and any ones I've found on ebay or other ressellers are ridiculous prices.

What are my options here for getting these at a reasonable price?

Thanks.

Thanks David,

Yes I've just found out that these parts aren't available unfortunately.

Is this just short term issue of are they just generally not available?

I may well have to replace the M2 in that case, so would I be best off just going for one the Samsung models you mentioned, or is there a certain spec that I can search for cheaper options, i.e should any M.2 SATA3 drives be suitable?

Also if I go for the M2 Samsung 860 Evo, would this be an upgrade on what's in there already performance wise? Spec sheet for the laptop just says it's a 126 GB M.2 SSD, no mention of a model.
