Common problems for Battery

I have an HP 15s-gr0012au laptop with 8GB RAM, out of which 2.1GB is allocated to the integrated GPU and only 5.9GB is usable. I want to reduce the UMA Frame Buffer Size to free up more RAM for system use.

When I enter the BIOS, I cannot find the UMA Frame Buffer Size option. After researching online, I found that this option is located under the Advanced Menu in BIOS — but the Advanced tab/menu is not visible in my BIOS at all. I tried multiple methods from YouTube and Google to unlock or access the Advanced menu, but nothing worked.

I am looking for either:

  1. A way to make the Advanced menu visible in BIOS so I can change the UMA Frame Buffer Size, OR
  2. Any alternative method to reduce the GPU allocated RAM on this laptop.

System Info:

  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 3 3250U with Radeon Graphics, 2600 MHz, 2 Cores, 4 Logical Processors
  • BIOS Version/Date: Insyde F.41, 24-10-2024
  • SMBIOS Version: 3.1
  • BIOS Mode: UEFI
  • Secure Boot State: On
  • BaseBoard Product: 87D2

Thank you for your response. I understand that the Advanced Menu is not available on this model and that the memory reservation is intentional for stability.

However, I would like to ask, is there any official or unofficial method to reduce the UMA Frame Buffer allocation on this specific model (HP 15s-gr0012au)? Even reducing it slightly (e.g., from 2.1GB to 512MB) would be helpful.

I have already tried the Smokeless UMAF tool but the UMA Frame Buffer Size option was not visible in it either. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Hi @SOFT001

These models don't have an advanced menu, but this is very common with AMD processors (not with Intel); memory is reserved for the hardware so that the processor runs more stably and quickly. Removing that memory can cause the system to become unstable.

I don't know of any, and I don't think there is one; that can only be configured if HP allows it in a BIOS update
