HP Pavilion Laptop PC 15-eg1000 IDS Base Model
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello. I have been having an issue with my computer related to a new battery I installed a month or so ago. After I installed the new battery, the laptop will charge as usual, but when I unplug the laptop, the charging light will stay white, and it will not boot up as it usually would. In order for me to get the laptop to start up, I have to hold the power button to restart the laptop every time I want to use it after charging it. The laptop works perfectly normal after this, but it only happens when unplugging the laptop. I have used support and had someone remotely do some fixes, which only worked temporarily.

Hi @CptnCrdnl,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Pavilion Laptop PC 15 is experiencing a power management issue after the battery replacement. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the problem.

Recalibrate the Battery

  • Charge the Battery Fully: Plug in the charger and let the battery charge to 100%.
  • Discharge Completely: Unplug the laptop and use it until the battery is completely drained and the laptop shuts down.
  • Recharge Again: Plug in the charger and let the battery charge back to 100% without interruption.

Update BIOS and Drivers

  • Update BIOS: Visit HP’s official website, enter your laptop model, and download the latest BIOS update.
  • Update Battery Drivers: Go to Device Manager, expand “Batteries,” right-click on “Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery,” and select “Update driver.”

Check Power Settings

  • Power Options: Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options. Make sure the power settings are configured properly for both battery and plugged-in modes.
  • Advanced Power Settings: Click on “Change plan settings” next to your selected plan, then “Change advanced power settings.” Ensure that settings for “Battery” and “Power buttons and lid” are correct.

Reset Power Management

  • Shutdown: Completely shut down the laptop.
  • Disconnect Power: Unplug the power adapter and remove the battery.
  • Press and Hold Power Button: Hold the power button for 15-30 seconds to reset the power management system.
  • Reinstall Battery and Power Adapter: Reinstall the battery, plug in the power adapter, and start the laptop.

Check Battery Connection

  • Ensure that the battery is properly connected to the laptop and that there are no loose connections.

Run HP Diagnostics

  • HP Support Assistant: Open the HP Support Assistant software and run the battery diagnostics tool to check if it detects any issues with the battery.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
