Microsoft Windows 11

So I contacted the Sandisk and they said since my SSD is a OEM product I need to contact HP, After the windows 11 update recently, My SSD's SMART system started giving me warning everytime I boot that my SSD may fail at anytime and in windows it gives me the realibility is degeraded option, I'm wondering if there's any fix for it or Microsoft has truly cooked my SSD? I'm not facing any issues with SSD so far, except for the warnings

Hi @AdityaKaushik,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can understand how concerning it is to see SMART warnings and “Reliability is degraded” messages on your Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 15-fa0000 (680A5AV) after a recent Windows 11 update, especially when the SSD seems to be functioning normally otherwise.

Let’s break this down and explore your options.

What the SMART Warning Means

SMART (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) is a system built into SSDs and HDDs to monitor health and predict failures. A warning like this typically means:

  • The SSD has logged errors or wear indicators that suggest it may fail soon.
  • Windows 11 is reading this data and flagging it during boot.
  • Even if the SSD works fine now, it may be approaching end-of-life or have firmware-level issues.

Steps to Address the Issue

1. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

HP has a built-in tool to verify SSD health beyond SMART warnings.

  • Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly → choose F2 for diagnostics.
  • Run the Storage Test (both Quick and Extensive).
  • If it fails, HP may offer a free replacement if under warranty.

2. Update SSD Firmware (If Available)

Sometimes SMART warnings are triggered by firmware bugs.

3. Backup Your Data Immediately

Even if the SSD seems fine, back up your important files to an external drive or cloud storage. SMART warnings are not always false alarms.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
