I have noticed several posts about HP spectre keyboard and touchpad defects - where it just stops working - and I have experienced that problem within 2 weeks of a Brand new HP spectre purchase. My keyboard/trackpad issues started happening randomly where the rest of the laptop seems operational and I was able to still partially use it via the mouse plugged in. The keyboard not functioning seems to happen more as the laptop is warmer and the HP spectre also sounds like it tends to run hot at the hinge. The short timeline to be experiencing defects, and seeing so many other posts about that issue, leads me to believe it is quite the common problem and that HP needs to do better for quality control.
Given it is within the one month mark of purchase at best buy, I am able to return it for refund, and will likely do so instead of exchanging it unless HP can guarantee an exchanged product will be any better. Not only that, but Best Buy/HP fraudulently claims all the HP products have dedicated graphics cards, when they are only integrated Intel iris XE.
HP, why is this keyboard problem happening?? And is it going to happen in all your laptops?

Hi @Suez123,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The issue you're experiencing with the HP Spectre x360, where the keyboard and touchpad stop working, especially as the device gets warmer, suggests a possible hardware malfunction
The problem is more pronounced as the laptop becomes warmer, and your observation that the laptop tends to run hot near the hinge area (where many crucial components including the processor and graphics card are located), supports the theory that overheating could be a contributing factor. Overheating can cause components to expand and contract, potentially leading to intermittent connectivity issues or hardware failure.
I would suggest you to update the BIOS: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/laptops
Let's try these steps to resolve the issue:
Run keyboard test:
- Press the Power button to turn on the computer and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second, until you see HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
- From the UEFI main menu, click Component Tests, then click Keyboard test.
- Click Run once. The Keyboard Test time is 3 minutes.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
