So there are ants inside my laptop. I was ignorant and left food beside my laptop and now there are ants coming out of my laptop. What should I do? If i get it opened at a repair shop, Will my warranty be voided? Or should I try other ways to get them out?

Hi @zokalmo1

If it is under warranty and you open it, you will probably lose the warranty. It is best to try blowing air through the ventilation grilles. You should contact HP if it gives you permission to open

@zokalmo1,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

No worries: this is an unusual but not unheard-of issue -ants are sometimes attracted to the warmth and even sugary residue around electronics. Here's what you can do:

  1. Unplug and power off your laptop immediately to prevent short circuits.

  2. Do not spray any insecticide or liquid cleaner into the vents or keyboard -that could cause serious internal damage.

  3. Try to lure the ants out naturally:

    • Place the powered-off laptop in a cool, dry, and well-lit area; ants prefer dark, warm spots and may leave on their own.

    • You can also gently place the laptop (powered off) on its side over a white surface to see if any ants exit.

  4. If the infestation seems significant, visit an HP Authorized Service Center. HP technicians can safely open and clean the device.

Warranty Note:

Opening the laptop yourself or having it opened by a non-authorized technician can void your warranty if damage occurs during disassembly. Authorized HP repair centers, however, can open and clean it without voiding warranty coverage. To check your laptop's warranty status: https://support.hp.com/in-en/check-warranty.

If the ants have built a nest or laid eggs inside (which happens surprisingly often), professional cleaning at an HP Authorized Service Center or at a bona fide laptop/PC repair/service business is the only real solution.

For your reference, you can locate an HP Authorized India Service Center here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/service-center.

Kind Regards,
