Pavilion g6-1189sa
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all,

I'd very much like to replace my hard drive with a SSD. Has anyone had success upgrading a Pavilion g6-1189sa in this way.. assuming it's even possible of course!

Hi:

I haven't any first hand experience with that model, but I have installed SSD's in older HP Intel notebooks than yours and they worked just fine.

Yours has the mobile intel series 5 chipsets and mine have the mobile intel 945, 965 and series 4 chipsets.

So, I would have to conclude if a SSD works in my ancient notebooks, one should work in yours.

I used Intel 535 120 GB SSD's in mine.  You can't buy them new anymore, I don't believe.

But perhaps any quality SSD will work in your model...Sandisk, Kingston, Samsung, Crucial...

Hi Paul,

Thanks for responding. Based on some research and your input I've placed an order for a SSD drive.

I'm looking forward to improved performance from my aging laptop, It's starting to feel almost as slow as the Brexit negotiations.

Many thanks... Mark

You're very welcome, Mark.

Please post back and let us know how the SSD upgrade went.

What a difference they make -- even though the drive will only run at the SATA II speed.

I was just watching a news feature about Brexit.

I hope it works out for all of us--even we folks in the USA will be impacted one way or t'other.
