The audio ribbon cable DEFC1089025 from 20170807 actually lays on TOP of the SSD. To replace the SSD, I must first remove at least one end of the cable. I *thought* that the folded blue "excess" was a tab to pull on, and I gently pulled on it, thinking it would pull the white plastic end out of the female receptacle.

 

The plastic end REMAINED in the receptacle, and my ribbon cable is now detached from its end...

 

Searching for DEFC1089025 within HP Support  and the Surfer was fruitless.  Is this a special cable that my local electronics store won't be able to replace, or is it fairly generic, just connecting two ends, and I can find it locally?  If I must order it, how?  

 

Also, it appears that the laptop will no longer power up.  It's as though the ribbon cable is a critical item, and no part of booting up is possible with it. Does that seem accurate?  

 

Thank you for your help!  (Hate to be w/o my laptop!)

I now have managed to detach BOTH ends of the cable from its connectors.  Would a local electronics store be able to source new connectors, and attach them?

 

I can order from a store in Maryland, $20, and would do so from HP --- if I could find the part when searching for it on HP's site...

 

In the meantime, no laptop.  😞
