Common problems for Battery
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about: Battery Reports, Hold a charge, Test and Calibrating Battery . Check out this link: Is your notebook plugged in and not charging?

I have an HP Victus Gaming Laptop that is still under warranty and less than a year old. However, I’ve been facing an issue where the laptop automatically shuts down without any warning and then restarts on its own.

This problem occurs even during normal, non-heavy usage. Sometimes, when I plug in the charger, the laptop keeps shutting down and restarting repeatedly (3–4 times). The battery health seems fine, there’s plenty of storage available, and the system doesn’t lag or show any other issues — yet the problem persists.

After restarting, it occasionally shows an error message saying “Your device ran into a problem.”

I had previously raised a support ticket on the HP Support Portal, and the technician updated the BIOS, which temporarily resolved the issue. However, the same problem has started again, and I’m not sure why it keeps happening.

Hi @mithoon_18,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can feel how frustrating this is, especially when you’ve already gone through a BIOS update and the issue keeps coming back. Let’s break this down and give you a clear, approved path forward without unnecessary data loss.

Steps Before Full Reset (To Avoid Data Loss)

  1. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
    • Restart → Press Esc repeatedly → F2 → Run System Tests (Memory + Hard Drive).
    • If tests pass, hardware is fine → focus on software fixes.

  2. Update BIOS & Chipset Again
  3. Update Graphics & Power Drivers
  4. Disable Fast Startup & Hybrid Sleep
    • Control Panel → Power Options → Choose what power buttons do → Disable Fast Startup.
    • This prevents power state conflicts.

  5. Check Event Viewer
    • Press Windows + X → Event Viewer → System.
    • Look for critical errors around shutdown time (often points to a driver or kernel issue).

  6. Run Windows Repair (Without Wiping Data)
    • Boot into Windows Recovery (F11)Advanced Options → Startup Repair.
    • If that fails, use In-place Upgrade (keeps files and apps).

If the Issue Persists

  • If crashes continue even after repair, HP recommends System Recovery (factory reset).
  • But you can back up your data first using:
    • HP Cloud Backup
    • External drive via HP Recovery Manager

I hope this helps.

HP VIRTUAL assistant saying that -
RESET is only option to tackle this issue and your data will be lost.
And I have to do this at second time - data restore.
