Dear Sir,
I have installed OS Windows 7 64 bit. In my system information, I am getting much lower physical memory than total physical memory.
Total physical memory 5.92 GB
Available Physical memory 1.92
Does this mean that in the current situation, my system is only capable of using up to 1.92 GB memory?
Assist me How I may resolve this, if this is a problem.

Hi @Atif-Ismail,
A warm welcome to the HP community. A very good day to you. 🙂 I reviewed the post regarding the amount of RAM installed and the amount of used memory and available free ram.I will be delighted to assist you here. 🙂
Superb description and stupendous diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂 You are a valued HP customer and it is paramount to assist you with it. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you. 🙂
To assist you better, I would require more information regarding this:
- Did you check in the properties window of System option in control panel?
- Did you check what programs are running in the background in task manager?
- Please let me know the complete model# of the computer to assist you better.
For a start please try these steps.
- Please perform a hard reset by following the steps from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01684768 and restart the computer.
- Then check in task manager what processes and programs are using up the RAM and end unwanted tasks from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03671001
- Then use the system configuration utility to disable startup programs from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01853706 and restart the computer and check the RAM usage again. There is an associated video also. Please perform all the required steps.
- Then use this link: https://support.hp.com/rs-en/document/c04756946 to increase virtual memory on the hard drive thereby improving the performance of the computer.
These steps should do the trick for you. To answer your question, currently, your computer has 6 GB of RAM out of which 1.92 GB is usable and the other rest is being used by a lot of other programs and background apps running on the computer.
Please uninstall any unwanted programs from the control panel programs and features option of your computer.
Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, please. Please note that I am not overloading you with a lot of troubleshooting steps. Instead, just like you, I am eager to ensure that the problem gets resolved. So I am providing you with more resources and information at your disposal to deal with the situation better.
Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. 🙂 Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you. 🙂
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Hi @Atif-Ismail,
I read your response. Thanks for the quick response.
- Please follow all the steps in this document https://support.hp.com/rs-en/document/c01817290 for slow performance and ensure to uninstall all the unwanted programs from programs and features of the control panel.
- You please follow the steps in system configuration utility to disable start up programs and processes and that should help you a great deal.
- Please ensure that you also increase virtual memory from the link sent in my previous post. This should help you a lot.
- Disable only those programs that are using up a lot of memory in task manager and that you think is not important to run. if you are not aware of the process or program go to the next program and check. Don't disable something that you are not aware of. This should do the trick for you.
You've displayed commendable effort and great troubleshooting to try and resolve the issue. Hats off you for that. 🙂
