Hi:

They will only run in Windows...

You can find the last BIOS update released under the W8 64 bit driver section.

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp77001-77500/sp77491.exe

Fix and enhancements:

- Provides improved security of UEFI code and variables. HP strongly recommends transitioning promptly to this updated BIOS version which supersedes all previous releases.

What only runs in windows?

HP Recommended

The BIOS update file will only run in Windows.

Since it was not written to be run using any other operating system but W8, I don't know what would happen if you run it in W10 for example.

Well there is a BIOS utility that works from the command prompt, and HP states that one can install from a USB drive.  But that's not the problem.

The problem is that I cannot find the HP directory where all the BIOS files are stored.  I would like to know two things:

1. What is that latest version?

2. Will I be able to turn on switchable graphics?

HP Recommended

I gave you the link to the latest version, and I have no idea if the update will allow the switchable graphics to work in Linux, since Linux is not a supported operating system.

All the BIOS updates for your notebook are on the support page I posted.

Click on the previous versions section.

My computer did not bring up that page.  Let me try again.

You can just click on the actual BIOS update file link I posted earlier if you want the latest one.

I gave you both the link to the driver page in general and the direct link to the latest BIOS update exe file (sp77491).

Sadly, that file does not have the version number listed in the name that I can figure.

I went back to the web link and found it needed the OS selected.  So I selected 8.1 64-bit.  Then I saw some links but not BIOS choices.
