Spectre x360 15t-bl100
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I noticed on HP's support site that the product series Spectre x360 15-bl100 has a newer BIOS and Diagnostics version than what I observed for the Spectre x360 15t-bl100.  Do the newer updates apply to the 15t model?  I have seen information about PCs needing a new BIOS upgrade to counter the new variants of the Spectre bug.

@A123H18,

Thanks for the update,

I see from your post that you have gone through the support website and found that your PC is not listed in the affected models, these updates which are released are particularly for those PC which are listed in the effected Models. You don't have to worry as your PC is not effected and you don't need to worry about the updates.

If you wish, you can try to update the Bios on your PC directly from our HP support website, using this link.

I hope this answers your question. Let me know if you need any further assistance!

@A123H18,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues related to your HP Notebook. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.

As I see you have a concern with Bios update, if the hp support site has the updates, it's safe to install it as it's available on it, because it's published for your device.

It shouldn't cause any issues, but ensure you only install the updates you need, as BIOS is only installed if there's an issue that needs to be fixed.

Updating the BIOS, also known as "flashing the BIOS," replaces the BIOS firmware. When completed successfully, a BIOS update can fix or enhance aspects of a computer's performance, or provide support for newly installed hardware. However, if an incorrect update is installed or if the update process is interrupted, the motherboard can be permanently damaged, leaving the computer unable to boot. It is recommended to update your BIOS only if one or more of the following conditions apply:

  • The update fixes a problem with your computer.

  • The update enhances your computer's performance in the desired way.

  • You are planning to change the operating system, processor, or other feature(s), and the current BIOS version will not support the new configuration.

  • An HP Support Agent, or an HP support document, recommends that you download and install a specific updated BIOS.

Also, download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

The specific model Spectre x360 15t-bl100 does not show the update, but the product series Spectre x360 15-bl100 (without the t behind the 15) shows a BIOS update.  Do the updates for the Spectre x360 15-bl100 product series apply to the specific model Spectre x3360 15t-bl100?

@A123H18,

Thank you for replying,

As I see that you have a concern with the Bios update. Before we jump into any conclusion.

Just wanted to know why do you want to update the Bios?

What exactly seems to be an issue with the computer?

Have you tried to update the Bios using HP Support Assistant?

Could you please respond to this post with the details as this will help me in further assisting you.

Eagerly waiting for your response!

I thought that the new BIOS update maybe protects against the new variants (3 and 4)  of the Spectre bug.  I can not tell from the Readme file for the new BIOS update whether the new protections are there.   The Support Assistant shows no new BIOS update.

Thanks

I do have a question regarding the latest Diagnostics link you provided.  Can I install the latest Diagnostics on an older HP Device that does not show the current version on the Support webpage?

@A123H18,

As I understand you want to know if you can install the latest Diagnostics on an older HP PC, Yes can install the latest version of HP Hardware diagnostics on your PC and this should work.

If you are having issues, just try to uninstall and then try to install the latest one from the link provided in the previous post.

I hope this answers your question. Let me know if you need any further assistance.
