HP Envy Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When turning on my computer, I sometimes get this:

"

Boot Device Not Found

Please install an operating system on your hard disk.

Hard Disk (3F0)

F2    System Diagnostics

For more information, please visit: www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup

"

I dual boot Linux and Windows with different boot partitions and my BIOS cannot find either one. If I boot from a USB, then I still cannot see my SSD as even being plugged in. This happens off-and-on and has happened with the SSD that came with the laptop and also the SSD that I replaced it with. The SSD seems to be fine, passes the SMART test, and is well under write capacity. The other SSD is fully functional in a different machine.

@HewP-is-Broken,

Thank you for posting your query on HP Support Community,

This looks like a possible hardware failure with the PC. However, I would suggest you try these steps here:

Let's start off by performing a Hard reset on the notebook

Before power resetting your computer, do the following:

  1. Disconnect or remove all peripheral devices. Start up the laptop and test the computer by itself, and then reconnect one peripheral device at a time.

  2. Turn over the computer and look for a battery compartment door.

 I recommend to restore the BIOS defaults. You could restore the BIOS with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings. That way it will look at the Hardware installed on the Notebook.

Once done, restart the computer and check.
