Hello,
Recently got a hp dv6000 for free to play with, hoping to update software and drivers, and hopefully hardware as well.
Model: Pavilion dv6306TX
P/N: GG211PA#ABG)
Bios: F.09
OS: Windows Vista
Can I please get a link to the latest software drivers, and especially the BIOS. If not, then all good.
Question: Can the CPU on this laptop be upgraded to the Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile Processors T8100, T8300, T9300, and T9500?
Thanks again.

Hi, @_Andy_H
Your model has the mobile Intel 945 chipset which can only handle processors with a 667 MHz FSB.
Only the Intel dv6500-6900 models with the mobile Intel 965 chipset can run the processors you referenced with a BIOS update.
Here is the link to the final BIOS update HP released for your model...
Info file:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp48001-48500/sp48121.html
Update file:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp48001-48500/sp48121.exe
The above files are 'straight from the horse's mouth,' as it were.
Even though HP has removed support for your notebook's model series, you can still find most of the drivers you need directly from the HP FTP site, thus avoiding the risk of 3rd party website drivers not being safe.
Here is the link to the service manual for your notebook's model series. The supported processors can be found on page 1-2.
IMHO, since your model already has the 2nd to the best processor supported, I wouldn't bother upgrading to the T7200, but that is up to you.

The only driver worth updating, also IMHO, would be the wifi driver.
Here is the latest Vista driver for the Broadcom wifi adapter the parts list indicates your model has...
This package contains the Broadcom Wireless LAN Drivers that are required to enable the integrated Broadcom Wireless LAN Adapter in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system.

Hi:
If you updated the BIOS with the file I posted, you can run 2 x 2 GB of memory...PC2-5300 or PC2-6400, whichever is cheaper.
The 6400 memory will run at the 667 MHz speed though.
Without the BIOS update, you will get a blue screen of death if you install 2 x 2 GB.
