I have a HP laptop model is 15-dw3xxx with windows 11 version 22H2. Lately I am getting an message at start up saying "BIOS has detected that the capacity if the internal battery has been reduced. This may caused due to environmental factors such as low ambient operating temperature, or it would be due to aging of the battery pack. Operating your system in a warmer location or operating your unit for a while might resolve this condition." I try to run a hardware diagnostic test on battery and charger but I do not have any F keys on my laptop. Is this something I really need to be concerned about? I do I go about resolving this?

Hi @Cemath06,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP 15 laptop's BIOS has detected a reduced capacity of the internal battery, it means that the battery is no longer holding its full charge as it did when it was new. This is a common occurrence with laptop batteries over time, as they have a limited number of charge-discharge cycles before their capacity starts to decrease.
When the battery capacity is reduced, you may notice that the laptop doesn't last as long on a single charge, or it might shut down unexpectedly even when it shows some battery percentage remaining. To address this issue, you can try the following steps.
Calibration: Sometimes, recalibrating the battery can help the system read its actual capacity correctly. To do this, follow these steps.
- Charge your laptop battery to 100% while it's powered off.
- Once fully charged, turn on the laptop and go into the BIOS settings.
- Look for the option to calibrate or recalibrate the battery. The exact location of this option can vary depending on the BIOS version and laptop model.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the calibration process.
- After calibration, use the laptop until the battery is almost completely drained, then recharge it fully again.
Check for BIOS Updates: Ensure that your laptop has the latest BIOS version installed. Manufacturers sometimes release BIOS updates that can improve battery performance and address issues.
Battery Maintenance: Properly maintain the battery by avoiding extreme temperatures and not keeping it fully charged or fully depleted for extended periods.
Replace the Battery: If the battery capacity reduction is severe and it no longer holds enough charge to meet your needs, it might be time to replace the battery with a new one. Laptop batteries are replaceable, and you can usually find compatible replacements online or through authorized HP service centers.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
