HP ENVY x360 Convertible 15m-bp0xx

So I received a notification from my HP support assistant two nights ago saying that there were updates to be installed. So I followed to notification to my support assistant page and saw that there was a BIOS update (Intel processor). Since my support assistant knows more about my computer than I do, I started to install the update, following the steps given. They had me choose a place to store the files that had to be removed in order to install the update and I'm honestly not sure where I chose but I did take a picture of it, which I'm hoping will get me out of this mess. I continued with the update, leaving it overnight because it was taking a long time and it was late. In the morning I went to continue the update. I hit next once or twice and then the next button froze and nothing happened for several minutes. At this point I was really unsure about what was going on and I made a bad decision 😬 I hit cancel until all of the tabs were closed and then I restarted my computer because none of my apps were opening. When my computer turned back on, EVERYTHING was gone: Chrome, my wallpaper, my shortcuts, other apps I had installed, it said I was logged out of my account but it won't let me sign in anywhere, basically everything I had added to the computer since I got it. In addition, nothing was opening when I clicked on it. So I restarted my computer again😬😬 same situation. Today I went on a I saw that the support assistant still let me see my computer as one of the electronics on my account so I selected it and I was able to continue the BIOS update but I had to choose where to send files again. I couldn't find where I had sent them before so I just typed it in from the picture I took. The update completed and I restarted my computer (following the instructions this time) but all of my information is still missing. I'm hoping it can be retrieved from where all of my files (assumedly it's my information I am missing) were sent but I have no idea how to access and then retrieve them. I hope this can be fixed! I was really dumb and now my computer is barely functioning right😔

Okay so there's a bit of an update: After looking at the "damage" further I realized that all of my FILES were removed. I discovered this by opening the files app. Whatsapp and Textnow are both still installed and I am pretty certain I am the one who installed them. It didn't forget the WiFi password or my lock screen security. When I got into my computer Internet Explorer opened up to a tab that said "Welcome to Windows." Was my information stolen? Were my files stolen? I have updated via the HP Support Assisstant before and I have not had any issues. This time looked exactly like the other times but now my files are gone. Perhaps it is my own error but can I retrieve them?

Hi @Isparkle

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the files.

Please try restoring the computer -

1. Save any open files and close all open programs.

2. In Windows, search for restore, and then open Create a restore point from the results list.

3. On the System Protection tab, click System Restore.

4. Click Next.

5. Click the Restore Point that you want to use, then click Next.

6. Click Finish to restore your computer to a previous point.

7. Do not interrupt System Restore when it starts. This can corrupt your hard drive and create more problems.

8. Click Yes in the warning that appears.

9. System Restore returns the computer configuration to a previous point in time and restarts.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
