I want to upgrade the WLAN card in my Pavilion dv5204, but every time I put in a new card, it just says. "Unsupported network/wireless card. Cannot continue. System halted." It's super annoying because I bought a wireless card with Bluetooth and WLAN that is compatible with my computer, so now I'm wondering if there is an update for the firmware so I can get rid of  that error and use the wireless card I want to

There is not. HP notebooks from that era had a BIOS whitelist which means the BIOS detects the wifi card and unless its on the list its not going to let the system boot up. I have not seen a convincing explanation of any viable workaround.  Attempts to modify the BIOS with a hex editor usually brick the laptop. The only card compatible for use in Denmark is 407576-002 Part number which is an 802.11 a/b/g WLAN Module. Its made by Broadcom and has to be the HP version.

Do not shoot the messenger. HP dropped the whitelist many years ago and we rarely get any questions about it now but it was once a very hot topic here on the Forum. HP and a few other laptop makers with similar wifi card restrictions believed it was required by government regulations covering radio transmitters of all kinds including laptop wireless cards.
