Omen 15-dc0051nr
Linux

No longer can find the download page for BIOS updates for the OMEN 15.  Did download F.12 last month, but couldn't install it.  Distracted for a while and now coming back to do the update, I find the HP website has apparently dropped everything associated with this model notebook.  It is less than 2 years old, far too soon for it to disappear.

Called support and was told that HP doesn't support Linux, at all--only Windows, and just recent versions.  I don't see how that should affect BIOS, but it is a problem for me.  I just ordered another HP notebook (delivery due 27 July 2020).  I'm thinking about canceling the order because I don't run Windows and need at least minimal support for Linux.

Anybody have insight into

Update the BIOS manually from a USB Flash drive (outside of Windows)  ?

This is at https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00042629 (which has a broken link to the BIOS updates).

Here is F.12. When you start the BIOS upgrade in Windows it gives you the option to proceed or to make a bootable thumb drive.

You can do this on a computer other than the one you want to install the BIOS on; any Windows computer

HP gives no support for Linux, really. No laptop maker I know provides general Linux support. They might offer a laptop with a specific Linux distro like Suse and they will support that but no info here about Linux. Lots of Linux info in Linux forums.
