Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I stopped using this laptop over a year ago once the swelling began but would like to begin using it again, what can I do about the swollen battery?

I noticed a few posts about a bloated battery, I followed the link that included a download to see if my battery (specifically) was a part of the recall. After running the app I was told that my battery was 'good' - NO RECALLED BATTERY DETECTED.  Its still swollen. How can I fix this problem, do I need to purchase a new battery or what?

Welcome to the HP User Community.

Yes, the battery must be removed from the computer and replaced.

There is no other solution.

NOTE:

In most cases, we have to purchase a compatible battery from other than HP.

Compatible batteries are available from many online merchants.

  • Swollen battery might be hiding OR there might be evidence that the battery has inflated.  For example, notebook case warps or won’t close, touch-pad stops working, “odd” bulging near the keyboard.

  • If the battery is in a swollen or bloated condition, the battery must be removed from the computer and replaced.  There are no other remedies, tests, or useful options.

Honestly, i don't have a problem purchasing a new battery my problem is the fact the battery is swollen in the 1st place and HP doesn't say, 'hey, we gave you a faulty product allow us to make it right. This laptop was purchased new at Best Buy in summer of 2018 before i moved to the Dominican republic. It had  light usage until Feb 2019 and then i went to upgrade the SSD that's when I  noticed the bloated battery. I panicked and stopped using it and began using an old Dell until i returned to the states. The HP sat on my desk for over a year then COVID came thru and added another year or so. Regardless the laptop is still current and I would like to use it again but I'm saying all of that to say it's pretty foul that i should have to pay for a battery bloating after being used sparingly without getting any concessions from HP. I actually have the upgraded HP in my shopping cart at BB now but because of this issue I'm going to pass and pick up a Dell.

Sure, do that.

We do not judge what people decide to do about product choice.

Be aware that the core of the issue is the battery technology and not the name on the computer.

Good Luck!
