I currently have a normal keyboard but would like to upgrade to a backlit keyboard. Does my model laptop have the available port to cope with a lit keyboard to enable night work?

Backlit keyboard was optional so there is a port. Here is the Service Manual:
See pp. 18-19 and 46.
There is a backlit option but HP only offers the replacement keyboard as part of the entire top cover so this is not an inexpensive upgrade and it is not terribly easy to do. But it can be done.
Post back if you need any help and please accept as solution if this is the info you were needing.

Duffer,
Thanks for your input with the backlit keyboard. I have now bought one for my p246sa, however when replacing it, I am unable to see the second port.
Any more advice would be greatly appreciated.
