The backlight goes off after 30 seconds, as per the manual. How do I stop the backlight going off at all.
The whole purpose of a backlight is for when working in darker conditions so what was the use case for destroying the whole purpose of a back light by some techie deciding it gets turned off after 30 second with absolutely no user configuration possible?
To describe this is utterly un-thought out is an understatement

I owned an EliteBook 840 G3 with a backlit keyboard years ago. Its BIOS had an option to select the duration of the backlight operation, with one of the selections being to keep the backlight on continuously.
The option is probably in Built-in Device Options. Enter the BIOS -> Advanced -> Built-in Device Options and look for the backlit keyboard option.
The backlight drains battery faster. If you keep backlight on all the time while on battery power, you may need to check the battery charge level often.

Many thanks. This works a treat. Backlight timeout set to 'never'
Battery draining isnt an issue as, just like the lights I have on in my house, I simply turn-off the backlight when I dont need it.
I hote the HP manual makes no mention of this very user-facing option in the BIOS, another, very surplus nail in 'HP reputation' coffin from my point of view.
