HP Probook 470 G0

Hi everyone, I have an HP ProBook 470 G0 with a standard keyboard without backlight. Recently, some keys stopped working (like the "W" key), so I’m planning to replace it.

I’d love to upgrade to a backlit keyboard, but I’m not sure if my laptop supports it. Has anyone successfully installed a backlit keyboard on this model? If so, could you please share which exact keyboard model works, and whether any BIOS settings or hardware tweaks are needed?

Hi @dimon7 , Welcome to HP Support Community!

You can likely upgrade your HP ProBook 470 G0 to a backlit keyboard, as the chassis was designed to accommodate both backlit and non-backlit configurations. The key to a successful upgrade is identifying the correct, compatible replacement part number.

The HP ProBook 470 G0 motherboard likely includes the necessary connector for the keyboard backlight, even if your original keyboard did not utilize it. The physical dimensions and connector types for the standard and backlit versions for this model are generally identical, except for the addition of a small ribbon cable for the backlight power.
You need the specific HP Part Number (PN) for the backlit version of the keyboard:
  1. Identify your required layout: The exact part number depends on the language/country layout you need (e.g., US, UK, German).
  2. Search the HP PartSurfer: The most reliable way to find the exact compatible part numbers (spares PNs) for your specific laptop model is to use the HP PartSurfer tool. Enter your full Product Number (from the sticker on the bottom of your laptop, e.g., 'H0W20EA#ABU') and look for the "Keyboard" category in the results list. It will often list multiple compatible spare PNs, sometimes differentiating between "KB BL" (Keyboard Backlit) and "KB non-BL".  Link to part surfer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
